French Onion Chicken Casserole is a hearty casserole recipe loaded with shredded chicken, egg noodles, onion soup mix, cream of chicken soup, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and French's crispy fried onions.
French Onion Chicken Casserole is an easy dinner recipe using precooked shredded chicken.
This tasty chicken casserole has a base of caramelized onions, shredded chicken and egg noodles all tossed in onion soup and cream of chicken soup and then topped with shredded mozzarella, parmesan and French's crispy fried onions.
This French onion casserole takes about an hour from start to finish and serves six people.

To make this casserole, I started by dumping some butter into a large pot over medium heat.
Once the butter was melted, I added some diced yellow onions to the pan.
I stirred the onions and butter together well.
I left the onions to cook, stirring occasionally, until they were nicely browned.
Then I added some water and a packet of onion soup mix to the pot.
I whisked the water and soup mix together well.
Then I added some egg noodles to the pot.
I spread the noodles out so that they were all as submerged in the liquid as possible.
Then I placed a lid on the pot and left the noodles to cook, stirring occasionally, for seven minutes.
After seven minutes, I removed the lid and stirred well.
Then I turned off the heat and added some condensed cream of chicken soup, salt and pepper to the pot.
I stirred until all of the noodles were coated in the cream of chicken soup.
Then I added some cooked, shredded chicken to the pot.
I stirred the shredded chicken and noodles together well.
Then I dumped the mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
I dumped some shredded mozzarella and shredded parmesan into a mixing bowl.
Then I added some French's crispy fried onions to the mixing bowl.
I stirred the shredded cheese and crispy onions together.
Then I sprinkled the cheese and fried onions mixture on top of the noodles in the baking dish.
I covered the baking dish with aluminum foil and placed it in the oven for twenty minutes.
After twenty minutes I removed the foil from the dish.
I continued baking the casserole for five minutes uncovered to crisp up the onions on top.
Then I removed the casserole from the oven.
I sliced and served the French onion casserole immediately.

- Place a lid on the pot and leave the noodles to cook, stirring occasionally, for 7 minutes.
- After 7 minutes remove the lid and stir well.
- Add the cream of chicken soup, salt and pepper to the pot.
- Stir until all of the noodles are coated in the chicken soup.
- Add the shredded chicken to the pot and stir well again.
- Dump the chicken and noodle mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Dump the shredded mozzarella and shredded parmesan into a mixing bowl.
- Add the crispy fried onions to the mixing bowl.
- Stir the shredded cheese and fried onions together.
